Ok Moncton, this one is for you. There’s something magical about the moment you realize it’s time. Time to start the Christmas gift shopping, time to wrangle the kids’ wish lists, time to pretend you’re organized even if you’re absolutely not.
This year, though, we made a promise: we’re doing it all locally in Moncton. Shops, makers, boutiques, artisans. If it’s in our community, it’s on our list.
And honestly, it felt good. There’s something special about knowing your dollars are going right back into the neighbourhoods we love.
But here’s the thing no one talks about enough: holiday shopping is basically a sport. A cardio event. A full-body experience. Which means that at some point, you will get hungry… and that’s where our day took a delicious turn.
The “Parents Deserve a Treat” Detour
Somewhere between store number three and wrapping idea number sixteen, we looked at each other and said the most responsible thing two parents can say in December:
“Let’s go eat.”

Cue the spontaneous (and wildly necessary) Date Night at Baton Rouge.
If you haven’t been in a while, consider this your nudge. The place hits every note: cozy, elevated, and just the right amount of festive without going full tinsel explosion. Exactly what you want mid-holiday-hustle.
Let’s Talk About the Food
The steak? Melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The kind of meal that makes you stop mid-conversation and just appreciate life for a second.
But the real headliner of the night was the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. La pièce de résistance.

Yes, I’m still thinking about it. No, I’m not exaggerating.
The Bonus
Baton Rouge is perfectly located downtown, close to everything. Easy to get to, easy to slide into your day, and very easy to make part of your routine if you’re the type who can justify “errands + date night” as a personality trait… which, apparently, I am.
Final Verdict
If you’re diving into your holiday shopping soon, build in a little treat for yourself. Parents deserve one. Adults without kids deserve one. Honestly, everyone deserves one.
And if your treat involves a great steak and an unforgettable cheesecake, I fully support your journey.
I can’t wait to go back.
